Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right belt size?
Measure your waist at belly button height, standing normally (not sucking in)
Subtract 2" From this measurement, as you will tighten the belt about this much
Don't use your pants size — it's usually inaccurate
Our belts are sized based on actual waist measurements, not clothing sizes

What’s the difference between a single ply and double ply belt?
Single ply belts use one thick top grain leather strap: lighter, more flexible, and quicker to break in
Double ply belts use two stitched top grain layers: stiffer, more supportive, and thicker

How do I choose between a 2.5”, 3”, or 4” wide belt?
2.5”: Best for very small-framed lifters or special cases.
3”: Perfect for most lifters — great balance of comfort and support.
4”: Maximum support, but may be too wide for smaller torsos.

Is a 3-inch belt strong enough for heavy squats and deadlifts?
Absolutely. Our 3” belts are built with the same premium materials as our 4” belts and can handle 400–600+ lb lifts without issue.

Is a 3-inch belt good for overhead pressing?
Yes!
3” belts are ideal for overhead pressing because they offer full support without digging into your ribs or restricting your breathing.

(Normal wear and tear isn’t covered.)

Can I customize my belt (color, holes, design)?

We offer:
Adding additional holes to a belt.
Custom sizing.

Are your belts approved for competition (USAPL, IPF, etc.)?
Yes in most cases.
Our belts meet the specs for all major federations.
Most federations only require that your belt meets their spec to be approved.
Some federations (like IPF) require explicit approval which we do not currently have. This is rarely an issue outside of high level meets and record attempts.
It's always a good idea to check with your meet director on specific requirements.

How do I break in a new leather belt?
Your belt will soften naturally with use.
To speed it up:
Wear it during warmups.
Gently roll it by hand.

Do different belt colors affect performance?
No. Our belts of the same type will perform the same regardless of color
For example, double suede belts in gray, black, or any other color are functionally the same, the only difference is cosmetic

Can I use my belt for cardio or CrossFit workouts?
Our belts are designed for strength training.
They may be too stiff or restrictive for high-speed cardio or WODs.

How do I clean and care for my belt?
Always store in cool, dry (climate controlled) environment. You don't want to expose you belt to temperature or humidity extremes for long periods.
For suede belts, use this kit to remove chalk and other minor stains.
For exposed top grain leather, you can use this cleaner. Be sure to apply sparingly and over a large area as a concentrated spot of cleaner can become a "spot" of its own.
In dry climates, top grain leather may need a very light coat of neatsfoot oil once a year or so. Important note: Never apply neatsfoot oil to suede, it's not needed and will permanently stain the suede.
